Following Terraviva, the project designed by Massimiliano Adami for the Fuorisalone 2010, the designer has created a new project, putting his unique touch on the ceramic mosaic and offering an unexpected, creative interpretation.

The design set of the project will be created by the designer at Refin Studio, Ceramiche Refin’s showroom in Milan, a place where architects, designers and planners can share their experience and views of the ceramic material.

Pareti d’Autore by DesignTaleStudio will be present at the Biennale of Venice 2010, showcased at Ambient, the exhibition developed and organised by Laura Villani and which will be held in the enchanting setting and ambience of the Arsenale of Venice – Tesa alle Nappe 90.

Together with well-known artists and companies of the calibre of Paola Crema, Angelo Morucci and Mario Venturini , Gianmaria Potenza  Favero&Milan, the path along Ambient has various pieces of the Pareti d’Autore collection, created by four interior designers and masters of architecture, namely Mario Bellini, Michele De Lucchi, Alessandro Mendini and Karim Rashid.

For his Pareti d’Autore project, Mario Bellini chose to cross the boundary into art, with a work that comes to life thanks to the hand of its creator who uses, with his clear references to conceptual art, his own signature over and over again as an artistic element.

Michele De Lucchi, designed for Pareti d’Autore a surface where the graphic trait becomes material, thanks to the use of glazes and glass grains manufactured using the most ancient techniques of craftsmen.

The Parete d’Autore created by Alessandro Mendini is a surface featuring an irregular geometrical design with the colour palette and with the characteristic playful approach so typical of one of the most recognised designers in the world.

The intricate and vibrant work by Karim Rashid combines silk-printing, glossy decalcomania and satin glazes for a Parete d’Autore expressing all the explosive creative flair of the designer.

All the works embrace art, design and architecture and can be intended as sculptures, design finishes, architectural elements or designer surfaces.

Three-dimensional square

Wednesday 17 March 2010

On Refin’s request, designers Massimiliano Adami, Lorenzo Damiani and Luca Nichetto have reinterpreted the ceramic product, thus outlining new perspectives.

This year, the project “Three-dimensional square” by Ceramiche Refin will be a lively presence at Fuorisalone.

Besides the remarkable installation in front of Triennale Palace, Refin’s exibition will be placed at Refin Studio showroom, as well. A recently inaugurated new space in the heart of Milan, to promote a dialogue between architects and professionals.

The project “Three-dimensional square” reflects Refin’s engagement in the fields of research, innovation, eco-sustainability and exploration of new horizons, to aspire to establish a new perspective in the ceramic world, through the projects of some of the most advanced designer in the international scene.

If it is true that the square is the classic shape of the ceramic tile, then it is also true that, not only does it stir symbolic memories in our minds, but also democratic ones.

But a square is also a two-dimensional geometric shape, and requires a certain amount of imagination to picture it as a three-dimensional form in the depths of space and time.

The seeming contradiction of the definition has a logic, an almost algorithmic one: three designers involved in one project, three paths to chose from in a bid to take ceramic covering to a new level of evolution.

But this third dimension is a treacherous one, an attempt at discovering other paths, to understand just how successfully product design can morph into process design, stimulating our senses, transmuting all possible destinations of use, implanting new ways of behaviour.

Experimentation is therefore not only the articulation of the results, but, first and foremost, is intrinsic to requirements.
Perspectives change and perhaps, if we look closely enough, a square can have more than three dimensions.
All 3 designers have discovered their own understanding of innovation, a transversal commitment to the corporate strategies, to enliven with new meaning, towards avant-garde explanations of creative research, eco-sustainability and craftsmanship.

While Massimiliano Adami has decided to work on the tile orthogonality, introducing a design destabilising its usual aesthetics towards a more natural, almost hand-made inspiration, Lorenzo Damiani focuses on the sustainability of the tile, trying to find the key that will unlock new recycling solutions, both materially and formally, while Luca Nichetto has fascinating new ideas to evaluate innovative production procedures, to stratify varying manufacturing processes and break down the components, elevating them to become protagonists.

Cersaie 2009 stand: more photos

Friday 2 October 2009

Here are some other photos of our stand at Cersaie 2009 which was designed by Michele De Lucchi exclusively for Refin Ceramiche / DesignTaleStudio. After having dealt with the a-temporality of ceramic and with its naturalness, manifested in the design set “From earth to the Earth”, De Lucchi has now focused his attention on the technological innovations of Refin Ceramiche, underlining how, thanks to the technologies of transformation and project-planning interpretation within the space, ceramic can also be used to take advantage of its lack of weight.

“Dalla terra alla Terra”: ceramics in Michele De Lucchi’s own words

Thursday 16 April 2009

Here is the text Michele De Lucchi wrote for the “Dalla terra alla Terra” (“From earth to the Earth”) installation, that will be held at the Milan Triennale during Fuorisalone 2009.

Ceramic is a marvellous material, not only as it is functional, cosy, solid, long-lasting, resistant, natural and eco-friendly, but also because it is earth. The earth is all we have and it is, both physically and metaphorically, our most precious material. Ceramic can create surfaces featuring any colour or finish and it allows for countless combinations of decors, natural imitations and creative geometries.

Too often though, we associate ceramic tiles exclusively with wall and floor coverings and too often we forget the majesty of this material, using it only to keep, unaltered over time, the welcoming feeling of a tile covered wall or flooring. But, a ceramic tile is earth, therefore it is an excellent building material, the best, the most versatile building material of all and thanks to this evocative quality, our tall and slender buildings came to life, as do our thoughts which fly high in the sky.

Thus, this rigid ceramic tile becomes a new material, rich in suggestions and hints, which take us by the hand into a new era, where ceramic cladding is not simply a mere covering skin but a marvellous material which, sprung from earth, brings all of us, contemporary man, back to the Earth.

“From earth to the Earth”: -7!

Tuesday 14 April 2009

Exactly a week to go before the opening of the Fuorisalone exhibition, or more specifically, before the press preview where we will reveal the set design for “From earth to the Earth”, in the courtyard opposite the Triennale, created by Michele de Lucchi exclusively for Ceramiche Refin. During this preview, scheduled to start at 10.30, architect de Lucchi in person will explain his work and the key-concept driving his creativity, that is to say, the intimate and enduring tie between nature and ceramics.

During the Fourisalone exhibition there will be plenty of time set aside on this theme within our set design. On Refin’s web-site, you can see the landing page showing the detailed schedule of events and the registration form, while, in the next day or two our blog will provide further details and teasers of the event.

Ceramiche Refin At Interieur 2008

Friday 10 October 2008

Following the success of 2006, Ceramiche Refin can confirm their presence at Interieur 2008, the bi-annual international trade fair dedicated to creativity and interior design.

The stand has been completely designed by the Rotor Group, the well-known Belgium company with a wealth of design experience, creating graphics, showrooms and products for the most important companies in the world.

The stand has been specifically created to display the new collection R+evolution, designed by the famous Anglo-Egyptian designer Karim Rashid for DesignTalestudio, the creative laboratory of Ceramiche Refin. The collection is made up of exclusive ceramics with original designs and lively colours, perfectly reflecting the unmistakable style of Karim Rashid; ceramics to create unique interior patterns and colours to dress every ambience with design.

Ceramiche Refin also presents Visual, a precious and minimalist collection, on a new 90x90cm size, ideal for dressing interiors of residential as well as commercial premises.

Another important collection, which confirms Ceramiche Refin’s constant commitment to ecology and respect to the environment, is the Eco-Leader collection, which consists of at least 40% recycled material. The Eco-leader tiles also meet the standards set by the American LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, and contribute to the creation of eco-sustainable buildings.

Come and visit Ceramiche Refin and DesignTaleStudio at stand 526.
